Micromax A116 Canvas HD review

Micromax has lauched its dual sim smartphone Micomax A116 Canvas HD. It has been seen as a successor of  company's popular budget smartphone A110 Canvas 2. The company has bestowed the phone with an HD screen, has put a quad-core chip and has doubled the on-board RAM.

These are the specifications of A116 Canvas HD -

  • Screen Size                                                            :  12.7 cm
  • OS                                                                         :  Android 4.1.2 ( Jelly Bean )
  • Processor                                                               :  1.2GHz, Quad-Core
  • RAM                                                                      :  1GB
  • In-built Memory                                                      :  4GB ( expandable to 32GB )
  • Camera                                                                   :  8MP
  • Battery capacity                                                       : 2000 mAh
  • Connectivity                                                             : 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, USB 2.0

The front of phone is black in colour, while the back is  white, which is a different concept but looks interesting. The screen covers the most part of the front and it is thinner than that of Canvas 2. The front has very plastickly to feel it, but then this phone costs Rs. 13990, so don't expect premium material to be used in this budget. The buttons are little recessed and at times get little hard to press.

The attraction of Canvas HD is indeed its HD screen. The phone's  HD screen sports high resolution of 1280*720 pixels resolution. Under sun visibility is good though the screen is very reflective. But the screen facilitates wider at viewing angles. The screen touch response is very good.

The phone features 8MP autofocus shooter camera that takes decent pictures in daylight. Although the photo taken are little overexposed and the white-balance in automatic mode is not optimal. This results in images appearing bit whiter and the colour looks little dull.  Indoor shots are above average. The camera takes some time to focus. The camera takes good quility of videos in ambient light. The phone also features a front camera which takes average photoes and can be used in video conferencing

The Micromax A116 Canvas HD is a worthy upgrade to the A110. A 5-inch screen phone, with a quad-core processor, running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, at a price point of Rs 13,990 is indeed a value for money proposition.

Overall, The Micromax A110 Canvas HD seems one of the best android tablet we have seen so far.

The 8-megapixel camera lens protrudes out a bit, similar to the HTC One X camera lens. The LED flash and a secondary microphone are located adjacent to the lens - See more at: http://gadgets.ndtv.com/mobiles/reviews/micromax-a116-canvas-hd-review-2-334341#sthash.m3hylp9j.dpuf
